about

THE IDEA:
Wanjina is a so-called "pseudo-classical" piece. The music is generated electronically but the focus comes from a traditional classical idea. Actually the music is partly composed, partly improvised and for a part spontanious composed throughout 2007 and 2008.
Wanjina is a piece for mixed choir, string orchestra and small ensemble (harp, violin, cello, horn, tuba, flute and percussion - marimba, celeste, timpani). Sometimes alltogether and sometimes separate or combined.

THE MEANING:
The piece is inspired by the life of the Aboriginal people of Australia. Their deep affection to nature and the idea that everything is connected to each other inspires me very much. The track titles come from the language of the Ngarinyin Aboriginal people.

WANJINA:
Life circulating within water giving structure and form to all things

WUNGUD (for mixed choir, string orchestra & small ensemble):
Energy or essence of living things

NGARINYIN (for string orchestra & small ensemble):
Terminology for complex social structures with linguistically divided symbolic associations between all living things

WALLAGUNDA (for {a} mixed choir; {b} string orchestra):
The entire Milky Way; a body of light forming the ultimate creator of the earth

BIRRINA (for mixed choir, string orchestra & small ensemble):
'Coming together' dance

NIMINDI (for mixed choir, string orchestra & small ensemble):
Belonging to all, of everyone, such as knowledge.
